U4GM - 7 Steps to Reach Mohgwyn Palace in Elden Ring
Reaching Mohgwyn Palace in Elden Ring is one of the more secretive and eerie experiences the game has to offer. As someone who has made the trek multiple times across different builds, I can confidently say that while it’s not the most straightforward location, the reward—be it in lore, runes, or challenge—is well worth it. In this guide, I’ll walk you through 7 key steps to access Mohgwyn Palace and share personal insights to help make your journey smoother.
Step 1: Begin White-Faced Varré’s Questline
Early in the game, you’ll meet White-Faced Varré at the First Step Site of Grace. Speak to him until he relocates to the Rose Church in Liurnia. This move generally happens after defeating Godrick. My first playthrough, I missed this entirely—don’t make that mistake. Head to Rose Church and speak to Varré to progress.
Step 2: Invade Other Players (Even if You Hate PvP)
To earn Varré’s trust, you’ll need to invade three players using the Festering Bloody Fingers he gives you. If you’re like me and dread PvP, rest assured that you don’t need to win—just participating counts. If you're offline, there's a workaround with NPC invasions in Writheblood Ruins (Altus Plateau). Finish this to unlock the next phase.
Step 3: Get the Lord of Blood’s Favor
After the invasions, Varré will give you the Lord of Blood’s Favor item and ask you to soak it in the blood of a maiden. This part can be confusing. The easiest option is the Church of Inhibition, which has a dead maiden you can use. Alternatively, you can use the dead maiden in the Chapel of Anticipation if you find a way back there with a key item later.
Step 4: Receive the Pureblood Knight’s Medal
Return the blood-soaked favor to Varré, and he’ll reward you with the Pureblood Knight’s Medal. This is the key to fast-traveling to Mohgwyn Palace. It's a unique item and can only be used once you accept Varré’s invitation. The area it unlocks is mid-to-end game, so make sure you're prepared.
Step 5: Use the Medal to Teleport
Once you've got the Pureblood Knight’s Medal, simply use it from your inventory to teleport directly to Mohgwyn Palace. This skips a lot of trouble and was my preferred method. The place is no joke, though. The enemies here hit hard and are densely packed. Be ready with solid gear, or farm some cheap Elden Ring Items to get the advantage.
Step 6: Alternative Route — Secret Portal in Consecrated Snowfield
If you didn’t follow Varré’s questline, there's another way. Deep in the Consecrated Snowfield, there’s a hidden portal behind an illusory wall. To access this area, you need the Haligtree Secret Medallion halves and must use them at the Grand Lift of Rold. This method is longer but lets you reach the same destination. I took this path in NG+ and found it just as satisfying, albeit more combat-intensive.
Step 7: Farm Runes Efficiently in Mohgwyn Palace
Once you’re in, Mohgwyn Palace becomes one of the best rune farming locations in the game. The Albinaurics here drop massive amounts of runes, especially with a Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot or the Sacred Relic Sword’s special ability (post-Endgame). For players looking to gather cheap elden ring runes fast and efficiently, this area is a gold mine.
My journey to Mohgwyn Palace was filled with trial and error, but the experience was unforgettable. Whether you’re in it for the boss fight with Mohg, the stunning blood-soaked environment, or the farming potential, this area delivers.
Players looking to gear up before taking on Mohgwyn Palace should consider checking out cheap Elden Ring Items or cheap elden ring runes from trusted sources like U4GM. From my personal experience, being well-prepared made the palace far more enjoyable and less punishing.
